By Bianca Oliveira

SAO PAULO – “São Paulo closely follows the transformation of agribusiness, so we are leaving the traditional view and investing in modernization. Sustainable development is increasingly present in agribusiness in São Paulo, directly reflecting on more investment in our state, generating jobs and income for our population ”, said Governor João Doria at the opening of the Brazilian Agribusiness Forum that took place on Monday (19).

The virtual event was promoted by the Global Council Sustainability & Marketing (GCSM) together with the Forum of the Americas and received important representatives of agribusiness in Brazil, including the secretary of agriculture and supply of the State of São Paulo, who highlighted the importance of the region.

“The GDP of the agribusiness in the state of São Paulo represents 20% of the total sector in the country, most of which comes from industry and services. In other words, the highest level of agro development is in São Paulo. We aim to make the state the main center of Brazilian agriculture around the world, ”said Gustavo Junqueira.

The secretary highlighted the opening of agribusiness commercial development offices in different locations around the world, such as the United Arab Emirates, China and, more recently, Germany. These structures are designed to stimulate the economy and generate new opportunities.

“58% of everything that is produced on Brazilian soil is transformed into industrialized products locally, so our food industry is as powerful as our agricultural production. In the Mercosur-European Union agreement this will be fundamental, we Brazilians need to join forces and organize ourselves in a public-private partnership so that we can have our products on the shelves in Paris, Munich, Rome. That is why we opened an office in Germany, which opened on April 8, ”said Junqueira.

São Paulo is one of the largest producers of sugar, ethanol and oranges. The sector works to further diversify production, with a focus on fostering the food industry and agribusiness inputs.
