SAO PAULO. – The Italian Embassy in Brasilia was the first diplomatic mission to receive the “Lixo Zero” certification from the Lixo Zero Brasil Institute. The Italian headquarters had already won the title of Brazil’s first Green Embassy.
A set of measures ensures that 100% of organic waste is sent to the composting compound of the complex, which was also inaugurated during the certification ceremony. The final product is used as fertilizer within the Embassy. In addition, recyclable and electronic waste is donated to some partner cooperatives that, in this way, have the opportunity to generate jobs and income through the sale of the material. Previously the embassy sent about 125 kg of waste per day to the landfill in Brasília and today that number is less than 2 kg per day.
Rodrigo Sabatini, president of the Lixo Zero Brasil Institute and director of the Zero Waste International Alliance, said he hopes that the example of the Italian Embassy in Brasilia will serve as inspiration for other diplomatic headquarters.
The Ambassador of Italy, Francesco Azzarello, said he was honored with the recognition and very proud that Italy can once again be a point of reference in the sector of environmental sustainability.
L’AMBASCIATA ITALIANA IN BRASILE È LA PRIMA A ‘RIFIUTI ZERO’

SAN PAOLO DEL BRASILE – L’ambasciata italiana è stata la prima missione diplomatica in Brasile a ricevere il certificato “Lizo Zero” rilasciato dall’Instituto Lixo Zero Brasil. Il titolo è riconosciuto a livello internazionale dalla Zero Waste International Alliance (Zwia) e attesta che una determinata impresa o azienda produce la minor quantià possibile di rifiuti. L’ufficio dipolomatico aveva già conquistato il titolo di prima “ambasciata verde” del Brasile.
Un insieme di misure garantisce che il 100 per cento dei residui organici prodotti dalla struttura siano destinati a una compostiera, che è stata inaugurata durante la cerimonia di consegna del certificato. Il prodotto finale è impiegato come fertilizzante dentro l’ambasciata.
