SAO PAULO – After three years of the crime that marked Brazilian society, the investigation has not yet identified the perpetrators of the attack and has not located the weapon that took the life of Councilwoman Marielle Franco, and the driver Anderson Gomes.
This Sunday (14), projections across Brazil were organized by women from the Socialism and Freedom Party (PSOL), to which Marielle was affiliated. The actions took place in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Federal District, Minas Gerais, Fortaleza, Bahia, Paraíba, Alagoas, Pará, Santa Catarina and Amazonas, and demanded speed in the investigation that has not yet been concluded.
In a note, PSOL explained that “Since the murder of Marielle, street demonstrations and actions mark the date, not only in Brazil, but all over the world. In 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the projections are a way to keep the memory of Marielle and Anderson pulsating and our constant fight for justice ”.
In Rio de Janeiro, the city inaugurated a plaque on Cinelandia, in front of the Municipal Council in honor of the city council. The mayor of RJ, Eduardo Paes, was present at the ceremony, together with the Special Secretary for Policies and Promotion of Women, Joyce Trindade, the federal deputy Marcelo Freixo, the mayor of the City Council, Carlo Caiado, and Marielle’s family members.
So far, former military police officers Ronnie Lessa and Élcio de Queiroz have been denounced by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) as executioners of the murdered and are imprisoned in the federal penitentiaries of Campo Grande and Porto Velho awaiting trial with a popular jury.
